Dance Science

Health in Dance & Dance for Health

Dance Science is a growing field of research and study. It aims to investigate dance, looking for ways to improve professional and educational practice through a variety of methodological approaches, as well as to explore the impact of dance in the realms of health and well-being among other populations.

This multi-disciplinary field of study combines knowledge of biomechanics, physiology, psychology and somatics applied to the art of performance, both in educational environments and in dance professionals.

Dance Science is a research field established in Europe and the United States since the 1970s and today it has a strong international association ( IADMS - International Association for Dance Medicine and Science) and a scientific journal dedicated to the topic ( JDMS - Journal of Dance Medicine and Science).

Abroad, there are several academic training courses in the area, Trinity Laban Conservatoire being a pioneer institution in the area's master's degree (see the complete list of courses by clicking here ).

Clara Fischer Gam, founder of our Fitness Training Programmes for Performers "Corpos Aptos Gestos Livres", holds a Master's Degree in Dance Science from Trinity Laban Conservatoire and serves as a committee member at IADMS.
